Team Stories – Red Rock Raiders

Red Rock Raiders (P.Chan, M.Grant) 5950 points 1/19 teams in PC-24 Let me start off by saying that it was a real surprise to win. Not that we didn’t go out and try to do our best. In this type of event you never know where you stand until the awards. I’ve been asked before if we know how many points we have and the answer is, no. We don’t keep a running tally of points, nor do we sit … Continue reading

Team Stories – Yeti

Yeti (F.Falardeau, L.Baril) 5350 points 3/19 teams in PC-24 We hit the road before the Eco-Endurance Challenge end because we had to work on Monday and it was a long trip back home. Team Yeti strategy was to get all controls clockwise on the west loop before midnight and all controls counterclockwise on the east loop before noon. We expected to get all the controls in 22-24 hours. We got west loop controls in this order: 201, 220, 241, 243, … Continue reading

Team Stories – Prince Co.GSR

Prince Co GSR (H.Pringle, J.Toner, C.Tanton, S.Stevenson) 2450 points 1/12 teams in Rec-8 We put in a team of 4 as a great way to get in an early event , get ready for the AR racing season and to represent GSAR from PEI who helped sponsor our participation in this event. We couldn’t have dreamed of a better day for the event. We started at 1000 and first tackled 243 under the powerlines. We decided to diverge from the … Continue reading

Team Stories – Powersauce

Powersauce (P.Gamble, S.Newton, D.Newton) 1500 points 9/12 teams in Rec-8 The eight-hour recreational race was a perfect choice – the three of us had never done anything like this before. We got out a few times the prior week for practice with the compass and we did have a GPS on hand for emergencies but it stayed in the pack. Our game plan was to “avoid running” and to “not worry about the points”. I still think a brisk hiking … Continue reading

Team Stories – Tree Amigos

Tree Amigos (G.Pemberton, S.Gaultois, B.Murphy) 2000 points 10/10, Rec-24 Wherever free food is offered, we will be there, Whenever nature calls, we will answer Wherever injustice threatens, call 911. Into the Thick of It We picked up a couple of more controls as we headed NE and the going was good along the roads. The pack must have spread out quite a bit, as we didn’t meet up with many other teams throughout the afternoon. We were getting bold and … Continue reading

Team Stories – Red Rock Raiders

Red Rock Raiders (P.Chan, M.Grant) 5700 points 3/12 teams in PC-24 Michael Haynes said he thought the top teams would all head north first. I guess we’re a bit contrarian because we went south. We went that way partly because we knew that it would probably be much wetter in the south end and we wanted to get wet and have a chance to dry out before dark. Secondly, we looked at the controls and points and decided that by … Continue reading
